Alpine huts in Saalbach Hinterglemm
There are over 50 huts to discover in the region around the Thurnerhof. At rustic alpine huts, which are still run by alpine dairymen, you can enjoy homemade cheese and fresh milk from the cows in the neighbouring barn, while goats, pigs and even ibex roam around the lovingly designed sun terraces.
Alpine huts in this form have a long tradition in the Alps. In summer, the cattle are still driven up to the higher alpine pastures. Alpine dairymen looked after the animals, milked them and made butter and cheese. Many of the original buildings are still preserved and you can enjoy buttermilk and fresh cakes in the cosy parlours and on the sun terraces.
In addition to the original form of alpine farming, there are modern mountain restaurants in Saalbach that offer an international menu, fine wines and a newly interpreted alpine interior.

Over 400 kilometres of hiking trails wind their way through the mountains and valleys around the Thurnerhof. Unforgettable views from lonely peaks await, as do challenging long-distance hikes or leisurely walks in the beautiful natural surroundings. As well as the opportunity to explore the region on your own, there are numerous free guided hikes in the tourist office's weekly programme. Many of the tours include a short stop at one of the huts - look forward to great conversations with nice people and local guides who will take you to the most beautiful places in the region!
