Cross-country skiing in Saalbach and the surroundings

Nordic winter holiday at the Thurnerhof

Small but nice, that is a good way to summarise the range of groomed cross-country ski runs in Saalbach Hinterglemm. This Nordic sport has found a home in the valley end of the Home of Lässig, offering plenty of high-altitude runs. But there is so much to discover for those who come to Saalbach and Hinterglemm for cross-country skiing. There are hundreds of kilometres of runs in the surrounding area, with one of the most important Nordic sports regions in the country just a stone’s throw away. At heart of it all is the Thurnerhof, the ideal destination for passionate cross-country skiers and for those looking to learn more about this sport.

The valley end runs

There are a number of groomed runs waiting to be mastered in the wide valley end of Hinterglemm. The 10.1 km high-altitude trail, which leads from the tennis centre in Hinterglemm to the Lindlingalm, is undoubtedly the highlight. With an ascent of 205 altitude metres, it invites you to enjoy three moderately difficult hours of cross-country-skiing. This snow-reliable run offers athletic challenges and boasts beautiful scenery. The high-altitude course is mainly run for the classic style, but also offers skating options right at the valley end from Lengau.

A trip to Saalfelden-Leogang ...

... is always worthwhile, especially for cross-country skiers. The Nordic sport has its second home here with an incredible 150 kilometres of runs - for beginners and leisurely cross-country skiers as well as for local top athletes. The wide network of tracks is also seamlessly connected to various other neighbouring villages, including Zell am See, Maria Alm, and Hochfilzen with the Austrian biathlon centre. Several schools have specialised in cross-country skiing, offering introductory courses and equipment rental as well as guided skiing on groomed runs for every level. Cross-country skiing is even made family-friendly at the Fun & Snow Park Saalfelden where children can playfully learn - using curves, hills and even jumps - that Nordic sports can be action-packed too! As soon as everyone has warmed up, high altitude run, tours through the snow-covered plains and attractive routes with magnificent views await. Cross-country skiing in Saalbach Hinterglemm, and the surroundings villages, is ideal for everyone. Moreover, at the Thurnerhof, you can get the latest cross-country skiing tips and further information for great activities beyond the slopes.
