Cross-country skiing in Saalbach and the surrounding area

Nordic winter holiday at the Thurnerhof

Small, but perfect, is a good way to summarise the range of groomed cross-country courses in Saalbach Hinterglemm. For example, one option to practice this Nordic sport in the Home of Lässig are the panoramic high-altitude tracks at the end of the valley. But there is so much to discover for those who come to Saalbach and Hinterglemm for cross-country skiing! There are hundreds of kilometres of tracks in the surrounding area, with one of the most important Nordic sports regions in the country just a stone’s throw away. In the middle of it all is the Thurnerhof, the ideal destination for passionate cross-country skiers, and for those who want to become one.

Tracks at the end of the valley

There are a number of groomed courses waiting to be mastered in the wide valley end of Hinterglemm. The 10.1 km high-altitude trail, which leads from the tennis centre in Hinterglemm to the Lindlingalm, is undoubtedly the highlight. With an ascent of 205 metres in altitude, it invites you to enjoy three moderately difficult hours of cross-country-skiing. However, this cross-country skiing track, with its guaranteed snow, not only offers sporting challenges, but also boasts beautiful scenery and runs directly along the Saalach river. Several short descents provide variety, too. The high-altitude course is mainly groomed for the classic style, but also offers skating options right at the valley end from Lengau.

A detour to Saalfelden-Leogang...

...is always worthwhile, especially for cross-country skiers. The Nordic sport has its second home here with an incredible 150 kilometres of tracks, which are used by beginners and leisure skiers, as well as local top athletes. The big network of tracks is also seamlessly connected to various other neighbouring villages, including Zell am See, Maria Alm, and Hochfilzen with the Austrian biathlon centre. Several schools have specialised in cross-country skiing, offering introductory courses and equipment hire, as well as guidance on groomed courses for every level. Cross-country skiing is even made family-friendly at the Fun & Snow Park Saalfelden, where children can playfully learn, using curves, hills and even jumps, that Nordic sports can be action-packed too! As soon as everyone has warmed-up, high-altitude trails, tours through the snow-covered lowlands, and attractive routes with magnificent views await.  Cross-country skiing in Saalbach Hinterglemm, and the surroundings villages, is ideal for everyone! Moreover, at the Thurnerhof, you can get the latest cross-country skiing tips and further information for great activities off-piste. We would be delighted to receive your non-binding holiday enquiry!
